Master Course for Clinicians:

Creating a Cash Based All-Inclusive Runner's Clinic Level 1 and 2

I couldn’t be more excited to start offering this course nationwide, and share my experience after 23 years of working with runners to help solve issues with injury and inefficiency . My career as a clinician is incredibly rewarding, and when I began teaching in the late 2000s I realized another source of real joy was teaching others how to perfect this skill set. During COVID I had clinics reach out to me for help in developing their running programs, and this year I would like to offer this course to others with a mentorship aspect, imparting both the leading evidence-based approaches and the clinical nuances that I feel have been so successful in my experience.

 About the Course

  • Attend an in-house course conducted at your clinic personalized to your staff to create a successful cash-based runner's clinic in a weekend!

  • Become the leading expert in your field of skilled running gait evaluation that speaks directly to the running community in your area.

  • Increase your clinics profitability immediately and grow your client base

  • Choose 1 or 2 day course options to bring you and your staff through every step of conducting an “All Inclusive Runner’s Evaluation” based on the leading evidence based practice in running medicine.

  • Note: Courses can be conducted on-site at your facility with unlimited staff or in Asheville NC with up to 5 staff members

Objectives

Level 1: Day 1

  1. Conduct in-depth client interviews to assess the most pertinent information to rule out red flags, outline an injury profile, construct client specific goals, and begin to formulate a clinical diagnosis and hypothesis.

  2. Perform a comprehensive table exam and functional screen to determine internal forces and motor pattern involved with running performance

  3. Perform a thorough video gait analysis coupled with use of wearable technology to collect both kinetic and kinematic data and determine external ground reaction forces involved in both injury and inefficiency.

  4. Create an individualized home program specific to clients deficits to allow improvements in strength and motor control

  5. Issue gait specific re-training drills and return-to-run programs to allow change in external forces for running with goal of recovery during running

  6. Assess client shoewear for wear patterns, stiffness, appropriateness to runner’s specific needs, and recommendations for change in shoe using the “minimalist index” including patient education

  7. Attendees will be competent to assess and make appropriate recommendations for common running injuries including bone stress injuries (BSI), knee pain, and soft tissue/tendon dysfunction.

  8. Participants will feel confident in the ability to create and market an all-inclusive runners clinic for clients including evaluation tools, equipment, and session format for comprehensive analysis and treatment.

Level 2: Day 2

  1. Advance proficiency with comprehensive table tests and functional screening tools specific in the evidence with identifying deficits with running athletes

  2. Perform a comprehensive assessment of foot and ankle mechanics in the running athletes

  3. Make a specific clinical diagnosis of plantar fascia and Achilles tendon pathology

  4. Become proficient with prescribing evidence-based exercise prescription specific to the type of lower body tendon disorder and pain-perception of the client, including implementing the most appropriate running schedule to allow the athlete to continue a modified running program without compromising healing

  5. Issue gait specific re-training drills specific to the kinematic faults identified in the video analysis to allow change in external forces for running with goal of recovery during running

  6. Learn taping techniques that are successful in mitigating pain syndromes in the running athlete to allow optimal advancement of the rehabilitation process

  7. Participants will feel confident in the ability to create and market an all-inclusive runners clinic for clients including evaluation tools, equipment, and session format for comprehensive analysis and treatment.

Attendee of Last Course:

“I was lucky enough to come across Miriam Salloum at a state APTA meeting for a half day course. Her passion for teaching and the confidence she instilled led us to bring her to our clinic for the Level 1 Course to help us start a running program. She was flexible and easy to work with.  Miriam is knowledgeable with many years of clinical experience and an expert in running rehabilitation. She presented the course information in a way that allowed us to bring that knowledge to the clinic right away, whether it be exercise, manual treatment, or video analysis of runners. After taking her course, I felt much more confident treating runners- ultra marathon runners and weekend warriors alike. We learned so much from Miriam and are looking forward to a Level 2 course with her!”

Patient testimonial:

“Some of the biggest strides I've taken in my running career are results of the guidance and wisdom granted by Miriam Nelson over at The Runners Mechanic Physical Therapy Clinic. Miriam is super conscientious about what she does. She examines your running from the ground up, not letting anything go unnoticed or unaddressed. The plans she gives to address your ailments, injuries, or weaknesses not only give you healing, but give you strength to prevent any further injury, increasing your longevity and keeping you running happy. I still use the strength training routine she gave me after I sustained a stress fracture in my sophomore year. She also improved my running form. Since then, my running has greatly improved while staying happy and healthy. I encourage ALL runners, injured or not, to visit Miriam. If you're injured, she will find what's wrong and give you a plan to address it and prevent it from happening again. If you're not injured, she can analyze your running form and running habits and correct them so that future injury is prevented. Even if you're not a runner but an athlete and have different ailments or injuries, without hesitation I recommend Miriam. Or if you're anybody that has any nagging ailment or injury, I still urge you to visit Miriam Nelson at The Runners Mechanic Physical Therapy Clinic in Asheville. She is honest, kind, and conscientious. I'm very thankful for the ways in which she has helped me in my running career.”
